3 Things You Can Do To Prepare Your Child For Kindergarten
It's a major milestone when your child goes off to kindergarten. Your baby is no longer a baby and is headed to the beginning of their educational future. This is a big milestone for your child and a major deal for you as a parent as well. Everything your child knows is more than likely because it's what you have taught to them. To help ensure your child is prepared for kindergarten and is where they need to be when they begin kindergarten, there are a few things you can do. Read on for some helpful information.
1. Talk To The School Beforehand
More than likely there will be a time that you go to the school to talk to the teachers and the principal and to get to see the school and classroom. This is a good opportunity for you as the parent to figure out exactly what your child needs to know before they start school in the upcoming fall. You can take this information and use it to teach your child and begin to prepare your child for what things they are going to need to know. Your child may not have to master everything before they begin kindergarten, but it's a good idea to begin to expose them to some of the things they will be learning in kindergarten.
2. Teach Your Child Some Extra Independence
You aren't going to be there to tie your child's shoes, to help with zippers and buttons, with opening food, or putting things away. Your child is going to need to know these things and is going to need to begin learning these things on their own. Start teaching your child to do these things independently, and stop helping your child to do everything. Your child is going to need to do a lot of things independently, so it's important to start doing these things at home.
3. Socialize Your Child More
Your child is going to be around a lot more children, possibly more than ever before, so it's important to start getting your child around other children now to help with the social aspects of kindergarten. Your child is going to need to learn to share, to help others, to be kind, not to tattle on anyone, and other things as well. If your child is not usually around other children, start taking your child to a play group or find other ways to socialize your child more.
If your child is going to be going to kindergarten, it's a major milestone. Your child is going to need to be prepared, and it's up to you as the parent to get your child prepared. Contact a local kindergarten to learn more about what else to do to prepare for the start of school.
